Trade is the main way to gain your fortune within Discovery Online. This will require cunning, planning and a good sense of what things are worth.
1. Player too player trade
Trade between players can only be done on land and with local players. Once the player highlighted you can right-click on the health bar of his information UI (normally just too the right of your own). This can be a good way of getting rid of some Items for some quick cash. Some items can't be sent to another player as they are bound to you. Too unbound an Item so that you can sell this Item can be done, at the bottom of your backpack there is a little padlock. If you left click this your cursor will turn into a key, click on the item and it will ask for confirmation on the state change, and ask you for a payment in Jango points. Please note this doesn't work at the moment and WILL take your Jango Points for nothing
To Trade with another player you must have him selected. To select a player simply left click on him. This will show his information UI, see the example image. Right clicking on his health bar will show his interaction menu. One of them is trade, left click will start the process. Please note that if nothing happens immediately this is because it is waiting for confirmation from the other player. |
If you receive this message it means that someone next too you wishes too trade with you, click confirm to trade or cancel too leave the trade. |
On the left hand side of the trade UI are the items you are going too exchange. You decide how many of each Item you wish to trade. To divide a group of items drag and ‘shift + click’ within your backpack then decide how many too set aside then drag and drop the box with the correct amount you wish to trade. |
On the Right-hand side you can see the items the other side is ready too exchange. |
Not only can goods be exchanged for other goods but a mix of items and money can be exchanged. if one side of the exchange doesn't have interesting enough items for sale, maybe propose a trade for gold points to make up the difference. |
This is where you can see the other side’s financial proposal for the trade. |
By clicking on the agree button you are agreeing to the current trade, as is. If any changes are made to the trade at any time thereafter you will have to re-confirm the trade as will the other side. |
2. Auction house
The Auction house is international; this means that you have access to all auctioneered items from across the Discovery Online world. Each Item has a starting big, a sell at price and a time frame in which too run your auction. Please note that there is a 2% commission fee on the start price for the auctioneer. There is also a time limit of 14 days to stop players using the auction house as an extra storage facility.
Buying an Item from Auction
You can use the search function or flick through the pages of items available using the Back or Next buttons.
Goods: The items details can be viewed by hovering over an items' icon.
Seller: Player selling the Item.
Time Left: Time left until the item is sold or returned to seller
Current Price: current highest bid for that object
Buy-out Price: Price at which the seller will sell the item directly.
Once you have an item selected you can enter a price in copper, silver and gold points and click on the bid button. Or you can use the buy now button: this will buy the item at the buy-out price NOT the current price.
Selling an Item at auction
When selling and item, it is always good to know what prices the competition is selling at! when you drag and drop an item into the retail box, a list of all similar items currently up for auction comes up you can use this to your advantage to undercut the competition.
This is the retail box, drag and drop the item you are looking too put up for auction. Just below that entre the number of hours you would like the auction too last. There is a maximum of 14 days duration for an auction. But it’s best not to put too long: a buyer will want his item asap!
This is where you enter the prices you would like to start the auction bidding at and a "buy-out" price. This automatically gives the item too the buyer at that given price. Please note that an auction can't go over the buy-out price, therefore it is a good idea to keep this price high enough.
Once you are sure your auction values are ready click on "Start" and it will then appear in your auctions tab.

3. Trading with Trader NPC
Trading is the principal means of making money within the Discovery Online world. With so many products too trade and so many towns too trade in it can be hard to figure out what will make most money.
Identifying a product too trade:
-
Product Categories:
Products are categorized into five product categories: Normal, Perishable, fragile, luxurious and general products.
You can find out the risk involved in transporting a product by analyzing its attribute values: Deterioration rate and range, Impairment rate and range and event rate. These happen over time at sea. As time passes some products will suffer from deterioration or breakages. The ratio and rates will, respectively, tell you if and how much a product will be affected by breakages or deterioration. Sometimes things just happen no matter how we look after our goods. There for products can also be subject to random events. All of these attribute figures will tell you how risky a product is to transport and whether or not it is worth trading.
-
Product pricing (pre-taxes):
Each product has a base price, that base price is then subject too many variables that affect the final price you pay. Prices are affected by many things: the product type, its level and quality, its minimum distance traveled and the product's supply.
There are 6 product levels in Discovery Online. Each product is associated to a level and levels determine who can trade the items (see the table below):
Those ticked refer to the level of products that can be purchased.

Each product has five levels of quality (identified by a roman numeral next to the Icon in the trade UI), with each higher quality a product's profits should increase by 20%.Always get a higher level product if you can afford it.
The further away you sell a product from one of its production points the less availability it has, thus it should fetch a higher price! Be warned though some products are sold in many places, just because you have been very far doesn't mean that your product isn't also made locally too. Check out the nearby towns and see if they are selling the product you are looking to sell.
Supply and demand will also affect a products price. If the town is low on a product the town will need more, thus they will pay a little more for that product. The amount of stock held by a town is the number shown in the products icon within the trade UI.
-
Product seasons:
Certain seasonal products are only be available during a certain season of the (game) year. Within Discovery Online time moves fast! for every 12 mins of life for your Discovery Online Avatar you, the player, will have lived one min! On the same scale each season lasts seven and a half days. Thus even if a product Is only avalible for one season it will still be there within the month. For Items needed for your consortiums' cities you may have too wait a couple of weeks. here is a list of all seasonal products in the game. In oreder to Identify what season the game is in you can use the date indicator in the game.
As you can see here the date is written within the mini-map. This indicates that I was in dublin at 18:25 on the first of August.
Spring = January, February and March
Summer = April, May and June
Autumn = July, August and September
Winter = October, November and December
Within the product section of the trade UI can be found all the items you can buy from that town at your level. Kind of like the shelf in a shop if you will. Too purchase some of a product drag and drop to get many at once or right click to get only one. For each product sold there is:
- Tax and prices: on the right hand side. (Prices include tax).
- The icon: on the icon are two numbers, the roman numerals show the product's quality (I=1 II=2 III=3 IV=4 and V=5). And the current number of the product currently in stock is displayed along the bottom of the icon.
- Quality selector: Use the arrows to select better quality goods. Better quality goods are more expensive and are subject to more tax. However, they fetch more too.
Within the bunks section of the trade UI you can see the trade products you have that are ready to be sold. Here you can see the quoted price with tax. Within the items icon you can see the products quality and the stock quantity. You drag and drop items in to your selling cart to sell the products.
Hovering your mouse over a products' icon within the trade UI it will tell you the products attributes.
the Quality: The quality of a product is noted in roman numerals better quality products have better prices and more tax values.
The Level: A products level dictates who can buy that product (see table above).
The Deterioration rate: Is the percentage of chance that the product will deteriorate at sea.
The Deterioration range: Indicates the amount of that product that will deteriorate should chance favor it.
Impairment rate: Is the percentage of chance that the product will break at sea.
Impairment range: Indicates the amount of that product that will break should chance favor it.
Event rate: is the percentage of chance that the product will fall prey to a random event at sea.
